August 2014 - Ready to Start a New Year!

Hello Classes,

This year brings some new elements for us! For the first week of school, no need to worry about supplies. But, if you are planning ahead, plan on having a binder, pencils, and a calculator for physics class!

See you soon!

Week of April 7, 2014

Quarter 4!

Intro to Physics (periods 3 and 4)

  • 20% projects are wrapping up with presentations after April vacation. We will have 1-2 more days to finalize your work. After that, we will use "20% Days" to do MCAS review.
  • Working on Circuits still in class - series vs. parallel  work will continue Wednesday-Friday this week.

SENIORS! This is a short quarter for us! Do not forget to hand in work - the end of the quarter will be here before you know it!

Conceptual Physics (period 2)
  • We are finishing up Sound and moving into Light waves beginning Wednesday!
Senior Honors Physics (period 5 and 7)
  • Wrapping up circuitry! We will do one more lab on electromagnetic induction with a generator. Then we will be moving back to Fluids before break.

March 26, 2014

Period 3 and 4: Quiz on Chapter 7 (Heat and Temperature) on Friday! Review guides were given out today. All formulas will be given.

Monday, March 24, 2014

March 24, 2014

Period 2 -- We will be delving into Waves beginning tomorrow, although there will be a culminating activity on electricity and circuits, so don't forget about that!

Period 3 -- No class today; tomorrow we will work on Specific Heat Capacity. Then we are ready for a ch. 7 Quiz!

Period 4 - - Specific Heat Capacity worksheet today -- complete for homework if you didn't complete it already! Then we are ready for a ch. 7 Quiz. No class tomorrow, so we will discuss timing in class on Wednesday.

Period 5 and 7 -- We need to complete the electric circuits lab and do some reading in Ch. 18. We will finish up on some electric circuits stuff, and then delve into waves before I lose you in May! Yikes! So little time!

Homework for 3/11/2014

Intro to physics, period 3 and 4: Read p. 166-175 in your text. You have no questions for homework, but you will be given two basic questions at the beginning of class tomorrow to check your understanding.

Honors Physics, period 5: If you did not complete your response to the Einstein video, please complete it for homework!

Seniors Physics - Period 2, 5, 7

Please complete this assignment about Einstein's Big Idea:

February 3, 2014!

Wow, January is over already. We still have lots to do! Here's the week's plan at a glance:

Period 2: We started on EM-spectrum and Doppler Shift today. More on that on Wednesday. We will also do some spectral analysis at the end of the week.

Period 3 and 4: Equilibrium and problems today
      Homework on 2/3: Re-read p. 114-116 and problems (4,5,6) on page 131.

We will do some more work on equilibrium and engineering tomorrow in class. Then we will move into heat at the end of the week!

Period 5 and 7: Working on conservation of energy problems (some of my favorites!) and then into power. We should be done with chapter 5 by the end of the week, barring snow days. . . Quiz next Week!

Midterm Week - Next week!

Period 3 and 4 Intro to Physics

Your exam is on next Wednesday, 1/22. I will answer any questions you still have before I give out the exam. I am also available by email (kraspallo@hopedaleschools.org) if you have questions over the weekend. I will be available on Tuesday after exams are done, as well.

The review guide is here.

I recommend re-reading the chapters. Pay attention to vocabulary and graphing (from chapter 2). You will be given the equations for the test. Bring a calculator!

Period 2 Conceptual Physics
Your midterm will involve a written portion - explaining why your original design did not work and how you will improve it -- and a practical portion where you will re-design and build a new contraption. We will not test these designs until after exam week due to how loud we are. Therefore, your grade will be based on the thoughtfulness of the design, your articulation of plans, and your self-assessment of your first design.

Period 5 and 7 Honors Physics
Your midterm is a lab. Please come prepared to work (in pairs or threes). Bring a calculator and writing utensils. Books are available in the room if you need to refer to them. You should not need to ask me any questions, other than clarifying questions.

Monday, January 6, 2014

January 8, 2014

Period 5 and 7 Honors Physics: read page 135-139 and complete Practice D. This will be collected.

Period 4 Intro to Physics: "Quest" next Tuesday on chapter 4; Midterm is on January 22 (study guide will be distributed next Tuesday after the Quest).
